Terry S. Schend, 67, died at home Thursday, Jan. 27, following his fight with pancreatic cancer. His family lovingly shared his final days caring for him.

A viewing will be held at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home, from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28.

A vigil service will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Church, Sunday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church.

Interment of his ashes will take place following the service at Highland Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Messiah Lutheran Church.

Terry was born Nov. 23, 1943, to William and Annabelle (Flatness) Schend. He lived his entire life in Havre. He attended St. Jude Thaddeus School, Havre High School and Northern Montana College. He married Barbara Bates, and to that union four children were born. In 2002 he married Vicke Larson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vicke; and his children, Debi (David) Rhines, Lorna (Jim) Kirkpatrick and Tracy (Steve) Faber, all of Havre, and Robert (Jessica) Schend of Gales Ferry, Conn .; stepsons, Scott (Sara) Larson of Silver Spring, Mass., and Derrek (Alice) Larson of Missoula; his grandchildren, the light of his soul, Sabrina, Gregory, Nicholas and Angela Rhines, Kyle and Sophie Kirkpatrick, and Ryann Preputin of Havre, Anthony and Erica Schend of Connecticut, Kayla McKenna of Helena, Miesha, Savannah, and Dalanie Faber of Havre; and great-grandson, Tate Larson of Missoula. Also surviving are his sisters, Wilma (Dick) Serns of California; and Katherine Williams of Utah; his sister-in-law, Nancy Schend of Colorado; and his aunt, Helen Kallenberger of Havre. Also surviving are many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Terry began working for Great Northern Railroad postal services during high school, and following graduation, he began his electrical career, which spanned 45 years. Along with two others, he started Tempo Electric in 1976. Following the sale of his business, he began teaching at Montana State University-Northern in the electrical technology department. He was instrumental in lobbying for the program to be placed at Northern and sought to establish it as the premier teaching program in the state. He was a founding member of the Montana Independent Electrical Contractors Association.

He was involved for more than 20 years with the American Red Cross, serving on the regional blood services board and in 2001 was named Montana's Volunteer of the Year. As the disaster chairman, he provided assistance to many families in Hill County affected by disaster. Terry was involved with the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce for many years, and his greatest accomplishment was completing the Town Square project. He believed strongly in his community and was elected to Havre's City Council, serving for six years. Terry served as president of the MSU-Northern Foundation and the Havre Lions Club and was a member of the Elks Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross of Montana, MSU-Northern Foundation or the St. Jude Thaddeus School Financial Aid Fund.
