John Parker Jr.

John Parker Jr., 76, whose Indian name was Kah-mi-ko-si-t Ah-s-si-ni, which means "Red Rock, " passed away Tuesday June 28, 2011, at his home in Rocky Boy.

His wake service began Tuesday and continues through Wednesday with his funeral service 10 a. m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, all at the Rocky Boy Catholic Church, with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial will follow at the Parker Family Cemetery at Williamson Range in Rocky Boy.

John was born Feb. 20, 1935, on Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, to John and Elizabeth (Nomee) Parker. He was raised with the Nault, Mitchell and Belcourt families in Parker Canyon.

He married Helen Sunchild on Dec. 27, 1956. They had six children, Timmy, Todd, Chase, Thomas, Jonna and Blue. John worked for the Rocky Boy Tribe, Dry Fork Farms and co-owned and operated his own construction business.

Junior served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1956.

Junior loved to play handgame and visit the casino when he was able.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; Leonard, Raymond, Gilbert, Robert and Alfred Parker Sr. ; his sisters, Lucy Miewald and Cecelia Corcoran-Belcourt; and two sons, Donald Chase Parker and Thomas Parker Sr.

John Parker Jr. is survived by his wife, Helen Sunchild Parker of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; his sons, Timothy (Stephanie) Parker of Rocky Boy, Mont., Rodney Todd (Julie) Parker of Tulsa, Okla., and Thomas Parker Jr. of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; his daughters, Jonna Leah (Frank) Stiffarm and Blue (Marvin) Belcourt, both of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; his sisters, Anna (Alan) Crain, Betty Wetsit and Mary Anne Whiteford, all of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; his brothers, Paul (Darlene) Parker and Jake (Fawn) Parker all of Rocky Boy, Mont. ; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
