Wahkpa Chu'gn featured in 'American Profile'

Thank you to the publisher and editor of the Havre Daily News for providing its readers with the weekly supplement "American Profile."

What a wonderful surprise this past Monday, Aug. 22, to find Havre's own Wahkpa Chu'gn Buffalo Jump featured in the "Tidbit" section of "American Profile."

"Montana — The Wahkpa Chu'gn Archaeological Site near Havre (pop. 9,310) is said to be the most extensive and best preserved buffalo jump in the northern Great Plains. The site, where hunters drove bison in a stampede over the hillside to their deaths, was used as far back as 2,000 years ago. It was discovered in 1962 by John Brumley. Visitors can get an up-close view of archaeological remains."

John and Anna Brumley, managers of the buffalo jump work tirelessly to provide tourists, students and local visitors with a unique archaeological experience. The site is currently undergoing much-needed renovations. Havre can be proud of this outstanding site. If you haven't been there in a while, come ... take a tour and help us promote this treasure that's right in our own back yard.

F.Y.I., both Wahkpa Chu'gn Buffalo Jump and The H. Earl Clack Memorial Museum of Hill County are under the "umbrella" of the Clack Museum board. Our museum is undergoing some changes, too. It will soon be under new management.
