Beeters pick up right where they left off

Chinook's Benjamin Stroh plows through several Scobey defenders during a Class C football game Saturday night in Chinook.

Everybody in the state knew going into Saturday's game that Scobey was an extremely improved team. The Spartans would test the reigning Class C state champion Chinook Sugarbeeters in their season debut, but the Beeters made a statement, loud and clear, that Chinook is still at the top of the ranks.

Saturday the Beeters hosted the Spartans in Chinook. And in very convincing fashion, the Beeters overcame the Spartans 58-20, giving them a 1-0 start to the season.

And in the win, the Beeters went right back to doing what they did best a year ago, running the ball.

Chinook took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and expanded the gap to 34-6 at halftime. And with another eight points in the third and 16 more in the fifth, the Beeters found themselves cruising to a 58-20 win in week one.

Ben Stroh was the main storyline in Saturday's win, scoring four touchdowns on the ground. Stroh put up the first two touchdowns for the Beeters, punching one in from 10-yards out, as well as breaking free for a 60-yard score. Stroh also scored an a four-yard run and another 10-yard run late in the game.

But not to be outdone, Zach Molyneaux also got in on three touchdowns for the Beeters. Molyneaux had a 17-yard rushing touchdown, a 33-yard rushing touchdown and a 25-yard pass for a touchdown in the lopsided victory.

Geoff Qualls also scored on a 10-yard rush for Chinook.

Stroh led the Chinook offense with a total of 185-yards on 18 carries. And Molyneaux followed close behind with 124-yards on 19 carries.

Meanwhile, a few local teams got their volleyball season underway this past weekend in Sunburst and Malta.

Chester/J-I captured first-place honors at the Sunburst Showcase. The Hawks defeated the Big Sandy Pioneers in the championship match and Great Falls Central in the semifinals. Big Sandy took down Valier in the other semifinal.

Chinook and Rocky Boy were in action last Saturday in Malta at the Malta Tournament. Chinook reached the semifinal round where the Sugarbeeters were beaten by the host M-Ettes. Rocky Boy lost to Malta 25-9 in the first round, while Circle defeated Malta 25-22 for the championship.
