Local Bowling Report: Surber makes it through Hi-Line Lanes Challenge

On Saturday, 30 eager bowlers took to the lanes all with the same objective in mind, to overcome the lane conditions and come out victorious in the annual Hi Line Lanes Challenge. Only one, Roman Surber, a local bowler, survived. Out of the 30 bowlers there was six women who put their skills up against the men and did very well. Two made the top 12 cut, and one, Laine Fitzpatrick, just missed the stepladder. Bowlers came from Cut Bank, Helena, Big Sandy, Harlem and Havre.

STEP-LADDER RESULTS: Game 1: Brandon Berreth 233 and Cody Thompson 180 (5th place). Game 2: Brandon Berreth 167 (4th) and Jacob Anderson 221. Game 3: Jacob Anderson 165 (3rd) and Ival Jackson 194. Game 4: Ival Jackson 204 (2nd) and Roman Surber 233. 6th place Laine Fizpatrick; 7th David Hassa; 8th Chris LaBuda; 9th J. W. Eaton; 10th Ryne LaBuda.

U.S.B.C. Rule 105 Absentee and Vacancy Scores. (a). Absentee or vacancy scores may be used only when a legal lineup is present. (b). Absentee or vacancy scores may not replace scores bowled by an ineligible player. (c). In a singles league, no vacancy score shall be used. Absentee scores will not be permitted, unless otherwise provided by league rule. (d) A vacancy score is to be used when a team has an incomplete roster. Vacancy scores are subject to the following, unless otherwise provided by league rule: Adult League: (a) The vacancy score shall be 120. (b) In handicap leagues, the handicap must be based on the vacancy score used. Handicap shall not be limited.

TIP OF THE WEEK: Remember lane courtesy. Bowler to the right always has the right away. Also do not drift into someone else's lane. Stay in your lane going to the foul line and returning.

Junior leagues will resume on Dec. 4.
