Local Golf Report: Hole 19 wins men's league title

 


It was 18 holes of great match play golf, but Hole 19 managed to come out on top of the 2011 Prairie Farms Golf Course men's league playoffs last week.

Over and 18-hole final, Hole 19 defeated Prairie Farms 39.5 points to 32.5 points. It was Hole 19's second men's league title in the last four seasons. The team is composed of Gerry Veis, Mike Purkett, Denny Lammerding and Eric Fee. Prairie Farms was made up of Brett Preshl, Ricky Brown, Pat Foster and Chase Hillman.

Eric Fee shot the lowest round at a 76 and took the most points at 11.5 over Chase Hillman who shot a 77. Cakes Purkett shot a 77 and took 10 points from Pat Foster who shot a 78. Gerry Veis shot a 79 and took 10 points from Ricky Brown who shot an 81. Denny Lammerding shot an 84 and took 8 points from Brett Preshl who shot an 87.

Meanwhile, last Thursday saw the women's league playoffs reach the semifinal round at Prairie Farms. In the second round, DA Davidson defeated Stockman Bank (20.5 to 15.5), Independent Inspection defeated Havre Heating & A/C (22 to 16) and Northern Montana Hospital defeated SM Construction (19 to 17). Stacey Sheppard was low gross with an outstanding round of 39 and Paula Sheppard was low net with a 30. The semifinals will be played this week.

The men's league playoffs are also at the semifinal stage at Beaver Creek Golf Course. Last Thursday saw Waddell & Reed defeat BCGC 20-16, PJ's defeat Standard Nutrition 20-16, Midtown Car Care defeat Valley Furniture 21-15 and Triangle Communications defeat Black Butte Electric 20.5 to 15.5. This week, Waddell & Reed takes on Triangle Communications and PJ's will play Midtown Car Care.

BCGC will also be the host sight of the upcoming Havre Invitational Golf Tournament on Sept. 17. The Blue Ponies played a tournament last Friday in Browning and have reached the halfway point of the 2011 season. The Havre Daily News has been unable to reach Pony coaches for results from the Browning tournament. The Ponies are back at East Glacier Lodge Golf Course this Saturday for the Browning Invitational.

The next tournament on the schedule at Prairie Farms will be the Blue Pony Scramble this Sunday. The tournament is a fundraiser for HPS and players can register online.
