HHS hands out Athlete's of the Year

Havre High School announced its 2011-12 Male and Female Athlete of the Year.

On Thursday night, at the Spring Sports Awards, Blue Pony seniors Sammy Evans and Casey Schaub were honored.

Evans was voted female Athlete of the Year after she participated in volleyball, basketball and track and field.

Evans earned Central A honors in both volleyball and basketball. And of course, she stood out on the track, placing at the Class A state meet in both the high jump and long jump. Evans is heading to the University of Montana to run track.

Schaub, who was voted Male Athlete of the Year, was a two-sport star this season.

He was Class A All-State at both fullback and linebacker for the Havre High football team, and was also selected to play in the Montana Shrine Game in July.

Schaub also captured the 189-pound Class A state wrestling championship last February in Billings to cap a brilliant mat career at HHS. Schaub will continue playing football next fall for Rocky Mountain College in Billings.
