HHS tracksters look sharp

The Top 10 Meet in Glasgow is without a doubt one of the tougher meets the Havre High Blue Pony track and field team attends each season. And while the entire team doesn't make the trip, a select few from those who do qualify, normally stand out.

This season was no different, as the Central A Ponies took a solid group of athletes to Glasgow on Tuesday night. Combined, HHS qualified 11 times, six from the boys' team and five from the girls.

Leading the way for the HHS boys, Mason Case placed in both the 100-meter and 200 meter sprints. Case ran the 100 in a time of 11.13 for a second place finish, while his time of 23.50 in the 200 was good enough for a No. 1 finish.

Garrett Aguillard also stood out for the Ponies, running the 1600 in 4:44.0 for a second place finish. And in the pole vault, the Ponies got two top placers. Thurman Holdsclaw cleared 12-6 and finished in third place. And Matt Emge followed closely behind, clearing 12-0 for a fourth place finish. The 400-meter relay team also placed on Tuesday, finishing the race in 45.47, good enough for a third place finish.

Havre High also had a handful of top finishers.

And once again, Sammy Evans helped lead the way, this time placing in two more events. Evans is still finding her way in the 100, but ran a 12.81 for a No. 3 finish. Evans also leaped 34-5 in the triple jump, claiming the No. 1 spot.

But Peyton Filius and Ashlynn VanVoast also stepped up for the Ponies, helping dominate the 800-meter. Filius finished in second with a time of 2:28.9, and VanVoast finished in third with a time of 2:29.5. The 1600-meter relay team also placed, finishing in second place with a time of 4:24.3.

The season has been non stop for the Ponies thus far, and the action continues. HHS will host a triangular with Lewistown and Malta on Saturday at the Havre Middle School track.
