Wind and heat. Those were the main stories of the past week in golf action around the area.

Last week saw plenty of hot temperatures, but high winds also wreaked havoc with golf courses on the Hi-Line. Men's league at Prairie Farms Golf Course was called off last Tuesday night as strong winds ripped apart some large cottonwood trees along the course. Wednesday night and Thursday also brought strong winds to the area, making golf leagues very challenging.

However, things did calm do

wn on Saturday as the ladies took to Prairie Farms for the annual Havre Women Fighting Breast Cancer Tournament. The tourney, which raises money for breast cancer research and breast cancer awareness was a nine-hole, three-woman scramble, and the ladies turned out in full force on a beautiful and hot Saturday afternoon. There were 18 teams of three participating in the tournament, which was won by the Cancer Fighters. The winning team, sponsored by Patrick Construction, was composed of Melissa Oberquell, Katie Heath and Kathy Peterson. Second place went to Save The Tatas, sponsored by Holt Plumbing and M&K Heating. The team was made up of Carol Kline, Haley McLain and Brenda Doyra. From someone who's life has been affected by breast cancer, I want to say a special thanks and congratulations to all the women who participated, worked on and helped put on such a great and worthwhile event.

The ladies also held another week of league golf last Thursday night. Havre Heating and AC and Patrick Construction tied for high-team honors with 24.5 points. Havre Heating and AC was composed of Jill Reber, Dixie Evans, Kim Evans and Janice Fisher. Patrick was composed of Carolyn Patrick, Nancy Salapich, Melissa Oberquell and Kathy Peterson. Low gross was won by Ali Ward, who shot an outstanding one-over par 37. Nancy Salapich also earned low net with a 27.

No scores were reported this week from Prairie Farms Wednesday night or Beaver Greek Golf Course Thursday night men's leagues. Hopefully, we'll have standings for you next week when league's resume. Due to the Fourth of July Holiday, there are no golf leagues in action this week.

Youth golfers around the area can now sign up for the Rotary Golf Camp, which will be held July 24-26 at Prairie Farms. The camp is open to golfers ages eight through seniors in high school.
