Suspicious fires break out in Highland Park

Someone in Highland Park can't wait for July 4 apparently, setting a series of fires in alleys early Saturday morning.

The Havre Fire Department received a call at 2:48 a. m. on a fire in the bed of a pickup in the alley behind the 1000 Block of 12th Street West.

While extinguishing that fire, the firefighters saw another fire in the same alley, in a shed a few houses down.

Both of those fires appear to have been started with the help of an accelerant.

At 3:23 a. m. the fire department received another call about another fire in the back of a pickup truck two blocks away, in the alley behind the 1000 Block of 12th Street.

A fourth call came in at 8:32 p. m. Saturday of a dumpster fire, but firefighters found some charcoal briquettes in the dumpster that likely caused that one, so it is not being considered as related.

The Havre Police Department is investigating the first three fires, suspicious about how close the time, location and styles appear to be.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is encouraged to call the Havre Police Department at 265-4361.
