Carroll Eugene Nielsen

Carroll Eugene Nielsen, 79, passed away on Jan. 2, 2012, at his home due to natural causes.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at 2 p. m., at Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel with Ila McClenahan officiating. Memorials in Carroll's honor may be made to a charity of a person's choice. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Carroll was born Nov. 30, 1932, to Jens and Lenore (Larsen) Nielsen. He attended school in Medicine Lake, Mont. In 1952, he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in Sidney, Mont. His tour of duty was served in Korea. Carroll was honorably discharged from the service in 1956.

Carroll married Lois Kraus. To this union, four children were born, Robbie, Doug, Shelley and Tami. The couple later divorced. On March 15, 1975, Carroll married Mary Ann Wood. The couple had one daughter, Joey Nielsen, along with Mary Ann's seven children.

Carroll enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes, and took great pride in his yard. He was very handy at fixing things, enjoyed making bird houses out of license plates and liked to tinker. He was a good story-teller, making things come alive to his listeners. Carroll liked to spend time gambling at Deadwood and Jack Pot. He enjoyed helping the Wood family in Joplin during harvest. He had many lifelong friends on the Hi-Line. He was a member of the American Legion for 54 years.

Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Everette Nielsen; step-son, Bobby Slyngstad; step-daughter, Nina Anderson; and grandson, Christopher Sweet.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Nielsen; his children, Robbie (Lowell) Kern of Belfield, N.D., Doug (Kathy) Nielsen of Dagmar, Mont., Shelley (Ted) Blazina of Billings, Mont., Tami Melton of Wolf Point, Mont., and Joey Wood of Kalispell, Mont. ; step-sons, Courtney Slyngstad of Burly, Idaho, Curtis Slyngstad of San Jose, Calif., Michael (Colleen) Slyngstad of Cameron Park, Calif., and Danny Slyngstad of San Jose, Calif. ; step-daughter, Christy Sweet of Springfield Ill. ; 20 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
