Havre High's Evans hits the court in Glendive

After four years at Havre High, the basketball career of Jaclyn Evans will continue.

Evans was star on the Blue Pony court for three years. She played all four, but was a three-year varsity starter for head coach Dustin Kraske and the Central A Ponies.

Evans says she is hoping that two years at DCC will give her the opportunity to continue her playing at a four-year college.

e loved the game of basketball too much to walk way just yet. Now a freshman at Glendive Community College, where she will also study early childhood development, Evans is hoping to be a star on the court for at least two more years.

"Midway through the summer I decided I still wanted to play," Evans said. "I asked coach Kraske to talk to them (Dawson Community College), and he did, and I got a call from coach (Tracey) Clingingsmith to come down for a recruit visit. I am still working on adjusting. I thought it would be similar, but it is completely different than basketball in high school."

But practice just began on Monday, so Evans has plenty of time to adjust and adapt.

The squad is very young this season, and this could mean plenty of playing time for Evans. There are just two sophomores on a team filled with freshmen, and they are all guards. There was a post player from France set to play for the lady Buccaneers, but opted out after just a handful of days in Glendive. Now with speed and quickness their biggest strength this season, Evans fits the mold perfectly.

Evans should see solid playing time. With the small size of the team, they should be a run and gun style. They will get up and down the court and will look to beat size with speed, something Evans is familiar with after the way the Blue Ponies played last season.

"I am not sure just yet how much," Evans said. "But I think I will get playing time. We are small and it will be similar to last year in high school. We are quick and small and we will always need fresh legs. And everyone works really hard, so I don't see anybody on the team that can't play."

And asked about how excited she is to keep playing, Evans could hardly contain her excitement.

"I am very, very, very, very excited to be playing agai," Evans said "I just couldn't see myself being done with basketball, I just didn't see that in my future at all. And even though it is only a two-year college, it is still two years of basketball I get to play. And from here, I could possibly move onto a four year college, that is why I am here."
