Local Golf Report: Golfers gear up for tournaments

It's full swing now. School is out and golf season is in high gear.

Over the next two months, local courses will be busy with play, from recreational golf to high-pressure tournaments, this next few months will be a fun time for golf enthusiasts.

The tournament schedule will start to heat up, starting June 16 at Prairie Farms with the annual Natalie Patrick Memorial Foundation scramble. There's another tournament with a great cause also on the horizon in the Havre Women Fighting Breast Cancer Tourney. The tourney will be held June 30 at Prairie and will be a 3-woman, nine-hole scramble. Registration deadline is June 15 and entry forms are available at the Prairie Farms Pro Shop or by calling 262-4362. Any donations to the tourney are also welcome.

League golf has been going for nearly two months now and the end of the first half of men's league at Prairie Farms is nearing.

This past Tuesday night saw Northstar Dodge earn 22.5 points to take home high-team honors for the night. Chase Hillman shot a solid 1-under-par 35 to earn low gross. Dave Armstrong was low net with a 28. Schubert Agency is out in front in the Tuesday standings with 126 points. Patrick Construction, Korb Construction and Hole 19 and Rock Solid round out the top four spots.

Last Wednesday saw Master Sports roll with 26.5 points. Matt Hedstrom and Jim Kato each fired even-par rounds of 36 for low gross and Cody Mattfeldt was low net with a 28. Valley Furniture is running away with the Wednesday standings. The team is in front with 134.5 points. Master Sports is a distant second, followed by Waddell & Reed and Michelob Light.

In Thursday night men's league at Beaver Creek Golf Course, Super 8 scored 24 points to earn high-team honors last Thursday. Frank Henry was low gross with a 40 and Kyle Surber was low net with a 29. PJ's Poker is leading the BCGC standings with 122 points. Kim's Heating & AC, Hi-Way Bar and Standard Nutrition round out the top four spots.

The ladies are also getting going at Prairie Farms. Last Thursday was the second night of league, and Western Drug scored 22.5 points to earn high team. The team is composed of Paula McLain, Lorna Kirkpatrick, Dominique Preputin and Kasey Shettel. Ali Ward shot a 39 to earn low gross and Lindsey Kellam netted a 31.
