Peterson wins Hill County Commission seat
After a race that went back-and-forth until the returns came in from Rocky Boy and mostly rural western Hill County, a northern Hill County farmer took a seat on the Hill County Commission after Tuesday's election.
Results show Democrat Mark Peterson narrowly defeating Havre businesswoman Debi Rhines, a Republican, 3,318 to 3,146.
Rhines took an early lead with the first precincts reporting Tuesday night, but Peterson later narrowed that lead and then took over, with the race going back and forth for several precincts.
The returns from Precinct 28, primarily part of Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, turned that around.
Peterson took that precinct with 364 votes to 23 cast for Rhines. He continued to build his lead as votes came in from western Hill County precincts, ending the night winning with 51.33 percent of the vote to Rhines' 48.67 percent.
