Local Golf Report: Jensen goes real low at Prairie Farms

The summer is winding down and golf leagues and golf tournaments are heating up with the weather.

At Prairie Farms Golf Course, there is just one week left in the 2012 men's league regular season. Teams will be vying for the final four Tuesday and Wednesday night playoff spots as of this week.

Last Tuesday night saw former Havre Blue Pony and current MSU-Northern golfer Jeremy Jensen fire an astounding 6-under-par 30 at Prairie Farms. Not sure if Jensen's round was a nine-hole record at Prairie Farms but it has to be pretty darn close. Dick Nault was low net with a 29 and Schubert Agency earned high-team honors with 22 points.

Hi-Line Drilling is leading the Tuesday night standings, while Tilleman Motors, Wagner Plumbing and Patrick Construction round out the current top four.

Prairie Farms seemed to be the place to be to shoot low scores last week as Jim Kato fired a 3-under par 33 for low gross last Wednesday. Kerry Ward was low net with a 26.5 and Modern Aire scored 23 points to take high-team honors.

Valley Furniture, which won the first half of the Wednesday night standings, is currently in first place, followed by Waddell & Reed, Michelob Light and Bear Paw Credit Union.

Last week in women's league at Prairie Farms, Golden Spike scored 23.5 points to earn high-team honors. The team was composed of Tammy Boles, Connie Peterson, Jen Brandon and Stacy Baldwin. Carrie Kato shot low gross with a 41 and Jen Brandon was low net with a 30.

Last Saturday saw another big tournament take place at Prairie Farms as the Annual Hospital Foundation Scramble was held. The tournament, a four-person scramble, is one of the most popular of the summer golf season.

Tournament enthusiasts can now sign up for the 5th Annual Havre Wrestling Club Tournament, which will be held Aug. 25 at Prairie Farms. The tourney is a four-person scramble with a cost of $75 per player. Players can sign up at the Prairie Farms Pro Shop or by calling 265-4790.

Havre High's golf season starts Thursday with the first day of practice. Golfers will be splitting time between Prairie Farms and Beaver Creek Golf Course. The Ponies open the season with a varsity-JV tournament featuring Great Falls High, Lewistown and Browning on Aug. 16 at Prairie Farms.
