Rose P. (Dusek) Brandt

Rose P. (Dusek) Brandt, 94, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at the Pleskac family farm north of Havre, due to natural causes.

Local funeral services will be 11 a. m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Funeral services will also be held in California, with burial to follow in Conejo Mountain Memorial Park Cemetery in California.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with local services and arrangements.

Rose was born on April 25, 1918, to Fred and Pauline (Repol) Dusek in Havre, Mont. She was raised in Box Elder, attending school there until she left school following her eighth-grade graduation to work to help support her family. She married George Brandt in 1953, and she was blessed with four children. In 1962, the couple moved to California, where they made their home until George's death in 1988.

Following George's passing, Rose split her time between her California home and Havre until she returned to Havre to reside full-time with her sister Mary Pleskac in 2009.

Rose enjoyed gardening with a passion. As a child, her mother would say "if there was a bean left in the garden she would find it. "

Even at the end of her life, when she wasn't able to work in the garden on the farm herself, whenever her sister Mary would tell her how things were growing, her eyes would light up. Rose also enjoyed cooking, canning and lemon pies. Along with volunteering with the cake day at the Northern Montana Care Center, she loved spending time with all her family and was very supportive of them. She was a "second mother" to her sisters while they were growing up and was described as always taking care of everyone else at times of need.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband, George; her daughter, Pauline Wilson; her grandson, Tom Puckett; her mother and father; her brothers, Fred and Jerry Dusek; and her sisters, Julia Pleskac, Betty Cloud and Lydia Rice.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty (Randy) Payne of Oxnard, Calif. ; her two sons, Richard (Michelle) Brandt of Port Hueneme, Calif., and David (Elaine) Brandt of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Pleskac of Havre; and numerous nieces and nephews.
