Havre's generosity keeps soup kitchen going

Editor:

I want to commend the people of Havre for their generosity. I have seen it over and over again as neighbors help neighbors and reach out in some special way to those with needs within our community.

What specifically motivates me to write this letter at this time is that during the Great Northern Fair I manned a booth in the Commercial Building for the Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen. I had many enjoyable conversations with people who expressed an interest in the work of the Soup Kitchen. This letter is to publicly say thank you to all who gave donations. We raised more than $900 by just letting people know there was a need.

Our goal is to raise $12,000 by next June, and since the fair more donations have come our way. But the need still exists. The Soup Kitchen fed more than 15,500 meals in 2011-2012.

We operate six days a week all year long. We feed mostly local families and individuals, and we are highly rated by the state of Montana. As the economy continues to lag, we will see more people use our services.

There are some ways to help:

  • Send a donation of any size;
  • Become a partner by sending a donation each month;
  • Host a fundraiser for us;
  • Send us a "sure-fire" fundraising idea.

Our address is P.O. Box 223, Havre, MT 59501.

You can also volunteer by coming to the Soup Kitchen any morning between 10:30 and 11:30. We need volunteers for food prep, serving, dishwashing and several other things.

Once again, Havre, thank you for caring!
