Big Sandy's Danreuther sets Big Sky meet record

A pair of former Big Sandy star athletes can now call themselves Big Sky Conference track and field champions.

Bozeman and the Montana State University Track and Field Complex was the site of the 2012 Big Sky Championships on Saturday afternoon, where former Big Sandy star Kourtney Danreuther stole the show.

Danreuther, who's already qualified for the NCAA Western Regional, won both the 200 and 400-meter sprints on the women's side for the University of Montana Saturday afternoon. In the 400, Danreuther's best event, she set a new Big Sky Conference meet record with her winning time of 53,21. The previous record, held by a former Northern Arizona standout, had stood since 1998.

Danreuther also won the 200 meters with a time of 24.27.

Another former Big Sandy state champion in track, and a multi-sports standout, Amber Amsbaugh also captured gold in Bozeman. Amsbaugh won the women's high jump title with a mark of 5-6. Amsbaugh competes for MSU, which finished second in both the men's and women's meet.

Danreuther will compete at the NCAA Western Regional for the Lady Griz later this month.
