Local Golf Report: Playoffs begin at all local courses

 


For many men's league golf teams, this week marks the start of what they've all been playing for all summer long. At both Prairie Farms and beaver Creek Golf Course, the annual playoffs will get underway.

At Prairie Farms, men's league playoffs begin tonight. Last Tuesday night saw the second half of the regular season draw to a close with Wagner Plumbing, Hi-Line Drilling, Northern Edge Hunts and Hole 19 all qualifying from the second half. Hol

The Barkus Home Center Team took first place for the second year in a row in the annual Northern Montana Healthcare Foundation Scramble held at Prairie Farms earlier this month The team includes Murray Barkus, Brooke Grosskopf, Thomas Grosskopf and Matt Hedstrom.

e 19 won a tiebreaker over Stockman Bank for the final second-half spot.

Wagner won the second-half title with 99 total points. The only first-half playoff team to finish in the top four was Patrick Construction. Wagner also earned high-team honors last Tuesday night, while Matt Hedstrom shot 37 to take home low gross and Jim Benner earned low net with a 31.

Last Wednesday night saw several teams farther down the standings earn second-half playoff berths. Valley Furniture won both halves of the regular season, while another first-half playoff team Waddell & Reed finished second. That meant, third-place Michelob Light, fourth-place Havre Ford, fifth-place Bear Paw Credit Union and sixth-place Taco Johns all found their way into the playoffs.

Valley and Waddell tied for high team last Wednesday, while Tom Adams and Andrew Ferguson each fired even-par rounds of 36 to earn low gross. Low net went to Murray Barkus with a 31.5.

Tonight's first round of the men's league playoffs will see Schubert taking on Taco Johns, Havre Ford against Bing-N-Bob's, Wagner Plumbing against D.A. Davidson, Waddell & Reed against Northern Edge, Valley Furniture against Hole 19, Hi-Line Drilling battling Master Sports, Michelob Light against Korb and Patrick Construction taking on BPCU. The second round will be played on Wednesday night.

The regular season is also over at BCGC. P.J.'s Poker finished in first with 321 points, while Kim's Heating and AC, Stone Child College, Waddell & Reed, Standard Nutrition, Hi-Way Bar, Beaver Creek and Super 8 all earned playoff berths. Those playoffs being on Thursday night.

Last Thursday at BCGC saw Kim's Heating win high-team honors with 23 points, while Frank Henry and Nick Turner each shot 39 for low gross. Mike Olson was low net with a 29.

It's also playoff time for the ladies at Prairie Farms.

Last Thursday saw Stockman Bank capture the regular season title, while D.A. Davidson, Havre Heating & AC, Independent Inspection Co., Patrick Construction, Independence Bank, Schubert Agency and Northern Montana Hospital all qualify for the playoffs which begin Thursday night.

Last Thursday also saw Havre Heating score 26 points to earn high team honors. The squad is composed of Kim Evans, Kelsey Evans Ward, Karan Evans and Janice Fisher. Ali Ward was low gross with a 41 and Carol Culp was low net.

Meanwhile, there have been plenty of tournaments being played across the Hi-Line this summer, and while the high school season heats up with a tourney at Prairie Farms on Thursday, two weeks ago, Northern Montana Hospital held its 18th annual Northern Montana Healthcare Foundation Scramble at Prairie Farms. There were 18 teams in the four-person scramble which is one of the top tourneys each season.

The Barkus Home Center Team took first place for the second year in a row. The team includes Murray Barkus, Brooke Grosskopf, Thomas Grosskopf and Matt Hedstrom. Second place went to the DCH Team and the North Western Energy Team placed third. Carrie Kato was the winner of the chipping contest and Kim Evans and Gene Kenney won the Hill County Title Company.

Thomas Grosskopf was the lucky winner of the Las Vegas Getaway sponsored by Yellowstone Insurance Exchange RRG in the "closest to the pin" contest. Mike Evans and Brooke Grosskopf took won the Derby at the end of the day.

All proceeds from the event benefit the projects of Northern Montana Health Care Foundation.
