Pony harriers race in Lewistown today

Coming off of a weekend where both the Havre High boys and girls cross country teams won team titles in Malta, the Blue Ponies are looking to keep this successful pace.

And this weekend is the perfect time to do that, as the Central A Ponies will run this afternoon in Lewistown. The Lewistown meet is always an important one for the Ponies, as they run into Belgrade, Lewistown, Livingston, and Browning (the entire Central A), as well as most of the Eastern A. A handful of Class B and Class C schools will also be in attendance, as well as Class AA Billings Skyview.

The Ponies have achieved a good amount of success already this season. Both teams were the No. 1 finishers last weekend, and the Lewistown meet should be another good test. The HHS girls won the meet last year and turned in a very impressive season, something both teams hope to do this year.

"This is the first real test of the season." Havre High head coach Kyle Fisher said. "After those first couple of meets were could kind of gage where we are at, but we are far enough along now, that this will be a very good test for both teams."

Running for the boys team, Marc Klimas, Desmond Fialkosky, Sundance Lodge, Elijah David, Dylan Stewart, Alec Drew and Derek VanDessel have been impressive. But Klimas, Fialkosky and Lodge should look to lead the way again this weekend, while David continues to grow into one of the Ponies' top runners as well.

And for the girls team, Katie Christianson, Jess Wiken, Trisha Kinsella, Morgan Mazurkiewicz and Larissa Price should continue to lead the pack. The HHS girls are already amongst the top teams in the state, while Liz Facio and Kiana Robertson continue to give the team talented depth.

"We are always looking at those kids who are at the top of the lineup." Fisher said. "But we are also looking for the kids in the middle, or the kids further down the lineup to also make an impact. We need the whole team to knock off kids, so we are looking for every single kid to compete this weekend."

Today the Ponies will run in Lewistown. Havre hosts the Havre Invitational next Saturday.
