Tom and Marilyn Jurenka, Joe Broesder honored for service

Tom and Marilyn Jurenka, ranchers from Hingham, and Joe T. Broesder. until recently Hill County Extension agent, were honored at the annual Ag Appreciation Dinner Saturday night.

The Jurenkas received the Ag Leader Recipient Award for their service to Hill County, the agriculture community and 4-H.

Farm Service Agency executive director Mike Zook presents Marilyn and Tom Jurenka the Ag Leader Award Saturday night at the Havre Ice Dome.

The award was presented by Mike Zook, Hill County FSA director, who praised them for their community service.

"They are friends that I have grown to respect over time for what they do for the community," he said.

He said the couple have become "the voice of 4-H at the Hill County Fair."

Some of the land they ranch north of Hingham was homesteaded by Tom's grandfather. Tom chairs the Hill County Conservation District.

Broesder was extension agent for Hill County for many years. He was recently promoted to regional director of the extension program. He received the Ag Advocate Award given to a non-farmer who provides service to the ag community.

He was lauded for his service to the farming community far beyond what was expected in his job.

He was not able to attend Saturday night's ceremonies, which were sponsored by the Havre Area Chamber of Commerce's Ag Committee at the Havre Ice Dome.
