Local Bowling Report: Juniors can still sign up for Pepsi Youth Challenge

In thumbing back through the Havre Daily News' Special Edition of Dec. 9, 1965, I found a picture of the "Heavy Duty Five" team which was probably the biggest team in the nation. For that honor they were featured in the April 1965 issue of the National Bowling Magazine on the "Wonderful World of Bowling" page. They weighed in at 1,370 pounds for an average of 274 pounds per person. Members of the team were Jack Balf (210), Ed "Hoss" Sorenson (280), Joe Hall (325), Jack Ryan (230) and Joe Schweitzer (325). They were big and they had three sponsors. I remember all of them well, besides from being big they were all good bowlers.

TOURNEY TRAIL: P.B.A. Last week's winner of the Chris Paul Charity Tournament was Blake Griffin and Pete Weber. Results of this week's P.B.A. Chameleon Open were Jason Belmonte over Sean Rash 268 to 191.

Over the weekend Dean Person, Jacob Anderson, Ryan Mapes and Shawn Mariani traveled to Lewistown to bowl in their annual Budweiser Tournament. Not much to report score wise but they had a good time.

Men's City Tournament is Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the 18-19 is Singles, Doubles, and Make-Up Teams. Shifts on Saturday and Sunday start at 12 p.m.

Any youth bowler wanting to bowl in the Pepsi Tournament please get a hold of Ken at the lanes before February 26th.
