MAT brings Shakespeare Richard III

The local acting troupe is bringing a Shakespearian classic to life with a modern twist.

Montana Actors' Theatre is starting its production of William Shakespeare's "Richard III" Friday, with the historical tragedy set in modern times and a video mix in the works.

The production includes large screens set above the stage in the Little Theatre in Cowan Hall at Montana State University-Northern, with photographs, images and videos to run on the screens above the live action.

The play will be set in modern locations with modern clothes, while retelling the story of Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, in his violent, murderous quest to become Richard III, king of England.

The productions of the play start at 8 p. m. each night, with the doors and backstage lounge opening at 7:30 p. m. The production runs Friday and Saturday; May 24-26; and May 31 through June 2.

Tickets for the production, also available online at http://www.mtactors.com, are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, with free admission for Northern students with a valild student identification card.
