Northern to honor King Wednesday

Most people celebrated the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. during their day off on Monday, but Montana State University-Northern's Campus Corps is offering an opportunity for more active reflection on the civil rights icon and his message Wednesday.

From noon to 1 p. m. Wednesday in the Student Union Building's Ballroom, the group is hosting an art show, featuring the work of local artists and students on the subject of diversity, as well as a recitation of King's most remembered words, the "I Have A Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Aug. 28, 1963.

Campus Corps team leader Grace Milanowski said the group wanted to take the opportunity to highlight the relevance of that message to the community today.

"We want to raise awareness about diversity in our community, " Milanowski said.

Milanowski said she had contacted the Havre Art Association to find contributors to the show and will be showing the works of up to 15 local artists.

Following the art show and recitation, the art will be on display in the SUB gallery through the end of next week.

"I think it'll be a good way to think about the diversity we have here, " Milanowski said, "to remember the important work that Dr. King did. "

Complimentary food will be available at Wednesday's event.
