Bob Dempsey Sheppard

Bob Dempsey Sheppard, 84, of Chinook, died of natural causes on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, after having coffee with his friends.

Bob was born on Sept. 6, 1927 in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He spent the majority of his life in north-central Montana. Bob proudly served in the U. S. Navy during the latter portion of World War II.

At the conclusion of his military service, Bob attended Eastern Montana College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 1953. He also lettered in basketball, baseball, football and track while at Eastern.

After college, Bob taught math and history and coached in Harlem. He later moved on to become a businessman in Harlem and Chinook, but still maintained lifelong relationships with his former students.

Bob married Mary Ann Williamson in 1959, and they later divorced. They moved to Chinook in 1971 with daughter, Tana, and son, Sam.

Some of Bob's greatest joys were spending time with his children and grandkids (especially watching them excel in sports). He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and held a great appreciation for western art.

Bob was preceded in death by his brothers Dale and Dell Sheppard, and his sister Florence.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Tana and son-in-law Tim Hedges of Havre, and son Sam Sheppard of Bozeman; his three beloved grandchildren, Chad Hedges of Bozeman, Jeff Hedges of Greensboro, N.C., and Hope Hedges of Bozeman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bob is also survived by the community of Chinook whose residents so enriched his life, his coffee club and hunting partners.

In accordance with Bob's wishes, there are no services planned. Cremation has taken place and Bob's ashes will be scattered at a later date.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.
