Hi-Line Football Roundup: Big Sandy, North Star roll

A lot of local, Hi-Line football programs have already proven they will be a force to be reckoned with this season, and for a few, the trend continued through another weekend of play.

In Northern C 8-Man action, the Chester/J-I Hawks maintained their undefeated play with another big conference win.

The Hawks already took down the Chinook Sugarbeeters earlier this season. And on Friday, the Hawks downed the Fort Benton Longhorns 52-12 to move to 4-0 on the season. The Longhorns are now 1-3.

and never looked back, as they put up 14 more in the third and six in the fourth. The Hawks' defense didn't allow another score after the first quarter, and was led by Jordan Oraw with 20 tackles and Cody Ramberg with 13.

Erik Kelly and his ground game led the offense. Kelly rushed the ball 24 times for 192 yards, as well as scored four touchdowns. Kelly scored on a six-yard run, a 56-yard run, a four-yard run, and an eight-yard ran. Tim Stokes, also scored twice, while Oraw and Mike Henke each found the end zone once each.

The Hawks will play again on Friday, facing Belt on the road.

Chinook 47, Sunburst 8

In other Northern C 8-Man action on Friday, the Beeters also found a way to dominate the competition. Chinook earned its third win of the season and dominated Sunburst 47-8. The Beeters improved to 3-1.

And it was a massive first quarter that lifted the Beeters to such a dominating win.

In the opening frame, Chinook got scores from Zach Molyneaux, Dylan Surber, Robby Klingaman and Gaving Gunderson. Molyneaux scored two touchdowns, one on a 65-yard kick return to start the game, and on a 30-yard run to close out the first frame. Molyneaux also tossed a 44-yard TD pass to Surber, while Klingaman scored on a 41-yard run, and Gunderson scored on a 31-yard interception return.

Sunburst scored once in the fourth quarter, while Gunderson scored two more times, once in the third, and once in the fourth quarter. Gunderson scored on a 26-yard pass from Ian McIntosh and on a 30-yard run.

Friday the Beeters will host Centerville at Hoon field in Chinook.

Choteau 44, Harlem 0

The Class B Harlem Wildcats also played on Friday, but they were on the wrong end of a crushing defeat.

Choteau defeated Harlem 44-0. The Wildcats earned just 61 yards of total offense, while the Wildcats grabbed 362 total yards. Austin Walker ran all over the Wildcats, rushing for 192-yards and accounted for four TD's.

Big Sandy 49, Stanford-Geyser 24

On Saturday, the Class C 6-Man Big Sandy Pioneers earned another big win for the Hi-Line. This time the Pioneers defeated Stanford-Geyser 49-24 to stay undefeated on the season.

The Pioneers found themselves locked in a 6-6 tie after the first quarter, but the offense really picked up steam. Big Sandy was able to add 18 pints in the second, 19 in the third and six more in the fourth, as they turned a tight matchup into a 25-point victory.

Zack Leader had a very productive day for the Pioneers, as he reeled in four TD passes. Leader caught a 25-yard pass, a nine-yard pass and a 10-yard pass for scores from Trevor Lackner. But Bailey had a big day as well. Alongside a 40-yard TD pass to Lackner, Bailey also added rushing scores from 10-yards, 50-yards, and 55-yards out for the Pioneers.

Lane Martin had a five-yard fumble recovery for a score as well.

Big Sandy will face Augusta on Saturday in Augusta.

Fairview 74, Hays-Lodge Pole 14

The Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds also played on Saturday, but there suffered an unfortunate loss. Fairview steamrolled the Thunderbirds 74-14 in Hays on Saturday.

Fairview opened up with a 66 point first quarter and the Thunderbirds could never recover. But the Thunderbirds did get two scores in the fourth quarter. Codie Kirkaldie scored on a 10-yard pass from Floyd McConnell, as well as on a 62-yard pas from Dane Strike.

North Star 59, Heart Butte 35

Wrapping up the weekend, the Class C 6-Man North Star Knights found a way to earn a win. Playing in Rudyard, the Knights took down Heart Butte 59-35, bouncing back nicely from a close loss last weekend.

A 40-22 stretch gave the Knights the advantage on Saturday. The contest was locked up in a 7-7 tie following the first quarter, but the Knights kept rolling. They added 20 in the second, and 20 more in the third. Heart Butte scored seven in the second and 15 in the third.

Holding a 47-39 lead through three quarters, the Knights used a 12-6 six fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the win.

And North Star got the job done on the ground and through the air, as they racked up 400 total yards of offense. The Knights rushed for 246 and passed for 154 yards, while the defense allowed 260 total yards.

Several Knights had big games.

Donovan Ulmen had a six-yard reception and a 13-yard reception for touchdowns. And Quinn Spinler scored on a 19-yard run and an eight-yard run, while Gavin Spinler scored on a 24-yard run and a 64-yard kick return. Cooper Spicher also tossed two TD passes, as well as rushed for a 10-yard score.
