Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup: Big wins for Knights, Pioneers

If this past week's matches are any indication, the District 6C East volleyball team is going to be a wild ride over the next two months.

The North Star Knights opened volleyball action on the Hi-LIne on Thursday night with a three-game sweep of rival Chester/J-I. The Knights defeated the Hawks by scores of 25-22, 25-23 and 25-20 in what was a tightly contested three sets.

Lisa Carlon garnered eight kills and four digs for the Knights, while Bettie Carlon totaled seven assists, five service aces and two blocks. Melissa Pester also had two solo blocks for North Star. The Hawks were led by Jimi Sangwin with 10 assists and three aces, while Brittnee Theel had a team-high nine kills.

Meanwhile, Thursday night was also tough on the Harlem Wildcats as they were swept by the 2B rival Malta M-Ette's. Malta beat Harlem by scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 25-8. Laci Snider was a bright spot for the Wildcats as she totaled five kills, 11 digs and two aces.

Harlem also lost to another 2B power on Friday night. At home, the Wildcats were defeated by the Glasgow Scotties by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-19. Snider again was tough, racking up four kills and 10 digs. Erin LaMere added three assists, three aces and three blocks in the loss.

Shelby also defeated Rocky Boy on Friday night, and the Morning Stars lost their second match of the weekend when they were beaten by the powerful Fairfield Eagles on Saturday night. The Eagles defeated Rocky Boy by scores of 25-15, 25-7 and 25-11.

Things were also tough for the C/J-I Hawks on Saturday as they dropped their second 6C match of the week. This time, the Hawks were swept by Big Sandy at home by scores of 25-8, 25-21 and 25-11. The first set, the Pioneers really got rolling and never looked back.

Denerey Haaland led C/J-I with nine kills , nine digs and a block. Kate Graff also had four aces. No individual stats were reported by Big Sandy as the Pioneers fought to move into first place in the 6C standings.
