Major League All Stars compete well at state

The Havre U12 all-star baseball team was able to win a handful of games at the 2012 Cal Ripken state tournament over the weekend, but unfortunately their season still had to come to an end.

Thursday-Sunday, the Havre all-stars were in Belgrade, where they survived pool play, and made their way into the single elimination championship bracket. Joining Havre was Glendive, Livingston, Mission, Belgrade, Kalispell, Bitterroot Valley, Glasgow, Gallatin Valley and Whitefish. Havre went 2-2 through pool play, and finished pool play as the No. 8 seed. Only the top eight teams continued on into the championship bracket.

Havre got off to a rough start on Thursday, going 0-2.

Glendive defeated Havre 6-1 in the tournament opener, while Mission defeated Havre 19-1 later in the afternoon. But on Friday, the Havre all-stars found a groove and settled in. Havre played two more games, this time going 2-0 with wins over Livingston and Belgrade. Havre narrowly defeated Livingston 13-12 before managing an 11-6 win over Blegrade. Livingston failed to reach tournament play, but the win over Belgrade was impressive for Havre, as Belgrade went on to finish the weekend as the fourth place team.

After going 2-2 in pool play, Havre entered tournament play as the No. 8 seed. Kalispell (4-0) was the No. 1 seed, while Glendive (3-1) was the No. 2 seed and Mission (3-1) was the No. 3 seed. After a tiebreaker, Havre was eighth as Gallatin Valley, Whitefish, Belgrade and Glasgow also all finished pool play with a .500 (2-2) record.

Unfortunately, tournament play was single elimination and Havre would run into the No. 1 seed. Kalispell defeated Havre 10-0, dashing their hopes of a state title, and putting and end to Havre's weekend.
