Grand opening, barbecue tonight for Beaver Creek chapel

A special celebration is set tonight for the renewal of history at Beaver Creek Park, with the grand opening and open house at the chapel at Camp Kiwanis in the park starting at 5:30 p. m.

The Hill County Park Board and the Havre-Hill County Historic Preservation Commission are sponsoring the event, which includes a barbecue and is open to the public.

The park, the oldest building at Camp Kiwanis, was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 2010.

The state awarded a grant in 2009 using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to renovate the building, which had fallen into severe disrepair and had not been used in years.

Now fully restored and historically accurate, the building is open to be reserved for use once again.
