Myrle Christina 'Chris' Holmberg

Myrle Christina "Chris" Holmberg, 74, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, Mont., of natural causes.

Chris was born on July 8, 1937, in Riverside, Calif., to David and Manila (Anderson) Cairney. She was married for more than 20 years to her beloved Dick Holmberg, who passed away in 1993. She also spent more than 35 years teaching first grade in Monterey Park, Calif., and continued her passion for children's literacy into retirement by working on school libraries. She touched the lives of many.

Chris was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; and her parents.

She is survived by her "grandkids, " Megan and William Boyle of Havre; her cousin, Kirsten (Shane) Boyle of Havre; her sister-in-law, Megan (Paul) Holmberg, of the Pacific Northwest; her nephew, Krister (Shephali) Holmberg of Sacramento, Calif. ; her great-nephew, Evan Holmberg of Sacramento, Calif. ; and many other living family and friends.

A memorial service was held at 11 a. m. on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 625 4th Ave. in Havre. Family graveside services will be held at Sunrise Lawn Cemetery in Whittier, Calif., on Friday, June 22, 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. on Monday, June 25, 2012, at Baywood Park Community Church in Baywood Park, Calif.

The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations of a children's book be made to your local school's library in Chris' name.

Holland & Bonine Funeral Home of Havre has been entrusted with the arrangements.
