Storms could hit during fair

National Weather Service is warning people that severe thunderstorms could be hitting the region right in the middle of fair activities.

Weather Service reported at 4:05 a. m. today that showers and thunderstorms over Idaho and southwest Montana this morning will continue to slowly move northward into north-central Montana by this afternoon. Some storms could become severe, the Weather Service release said.

The likely time and location of storms is from Glacier National Park through Havre from noon to 9 p. m.

The strongest storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging wind gusts and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, the release said. Brief heavy rain is also possible, especially for storms along and north of U. S. Highway 2.

The release said the confidence of storms developing is high, although the threat of severe storms will be isolated, with scattered storms.

Heavy rainfall could cause poor driving conditions due to poor visibilities, hydroplaning or gravel roads becoming temporarily impassable, the release said.

Weather Service urged people to continue to monitor the latest forecast for updates as the situation evolves and to listen for any possible watches or warnings that may be issued.
