Chinook man dies in car crash

Correction: The original version of this story listed an incorrect time of the crash.

The Montana Highway Patrol reported this morning that a Alan Bemis of Chinook, 40, died as the result of injuries sustained in a one-vehicle rollover south of Chinook.

The report said that Bemis was dead on arrival.

According to the report, Bemis was driving northbound on Montana State Highway 240 at 9:35 p. m. when the 1996 Dodge truck he was driving failed to negotiate a right-hand turn and crossed the center line into the southbound lane.

He attempted to steer the truck back into the northbound lane, and the vehicle entered the ditch on the east side of the road, the report said.

The truck rolled broadside one-and-a-half times, coming to rest on its top.

Bemis was not wearing a seat belt, the report said.

The report said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
