Crowd gathers for friendship, food at Thanksgiving dinner

Thursday morning's snow didn't stop a large crowd from gathering at St Jude's Parish Center for the annual Havre Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

A total of 345 people had the annual dinner delivered to their homes, said Debi Rhines, who chaired the event for a second year.

More than 76 volunteers signed up when they came in Thursday morning. Rhines said, But she suspected there were more.More volunteered Wednesday, she sadi, when people set up the tables and began cooking the food.

"Some people just showed up and started working," she said. "They never signed up."

Laughter dominated in the kitchen, where much of the work was done.

Lolly Evans was there for her 13th volunteer effort at the dinner.

"I plan my Thanksgiving activities around this," she said, as she scooped stuffing on plate of visitors as they as they passed through the line.
