MSU-N's Schwenke, Myers earn NAIA All-American

MSU-Northern's Laramie Schwenke was named an NAIA All-American Wednesday.

A pair of Montana State University-Northern basketball players have earned the highest honor in the NAIA.

MSU-Northern senior LaVon Myers was named an NAIA All-American.

Schwenke was named an NAIA Women's All-American after a senior season in which she averaged just over 15 points, five rebounds and three assists per game. Schwenke had a season high of 25 points and score din double figures in nearly every game shoe took the court. She also missed several games early in the 2011-12 season with a knee injury. She was also among the top 3-point shooters in the NAIA this season.

Schwenke, a former Malta star, was a two-time Frontier All-Conference performer and she helped the Skylights to a 20-win season, a third-place finish in the Frontier Conference and a semifinal appearance in the Frontier Conference tournament earlier this month.

Myers also earned NAIA Men's Honorable Mention honors for his fine play in 2011-12. Also a senior, Myers was the point guard for a Lights' team which set a school record with 27 wins and repeated as Frontier Conference regular season and tournament champions.

Myers averaged 11 points and four assists per game for the Lights in helping them reach the NAIA national tournament for the second straight season. A two-year starter from Compton, Calif., Myers was a deadly 3-ppont shooter for the Lights, earning Frontier All-Conference in both his seasons at Northern. Myers will serve as an assistant coach for Northern next season while finishing his degree.

The Frontier Conference had a pair of repeat First-Team All-Americans in Lewis-Clark State's Jasmine Stohr and UM-Western's Brandon Brown. On the women's side, Western's Hayley Pettit and Westminster's Nicole Yazzie earned third-team honors, while LC State's Kirsi Voshell, Rocky Mountain College's Allison Blake and Westminster's Cydney Tibbetts were named honorable mention.

On the men's side, Carroll's Andy Garland earned second-team honors and is a four-time all-american. Westminster's Jake Orchard and UM-Western's Kyle Erickson also earned honorable mention for the season.
