North Star's Donoven, MSU-N's Hyder honored for football

A pair of local football players have earned a prestigious honor for the 2011-12 school year. An elite list of college and high school football players in Montana were named National Football Foundation Scholar Athletes for 2012 for the Montana Chapter.

The select group includes North Star standout Jordy Donoven and Montana State University-Northern junior offensive lineman Brock Hyder.

Donoven, a 6-0, 180-pound senior, who started for the Knights for four years, played quarterback, running back and defense during his career, and earned Class C Six-Man All-State honors three times, carries a perfect 4.0 GPA at North Star High School. Donoven is just one of six Montana preps to receive the award.

Hyder, who is a two-year starter for the Lights and reigning a Frontier All-Conference performer, carries a 3.5 GPA and is one of four Frontier players to receive the prestigious honor. He will be a senior at MSU-N in the fall.

Also receiving the honor for 2012 were Tracy Brady, Fairfield, 5-10, 165, 3.60 GPA; Caleb Kidder, Helena Capital, 6-5, 245, 3.70 GPA; J.T. Linder, Dillon, 6-2, 195, 3.70 GPA; Tyler Lott, Twin Bridges, 5-10, 170, 3.60 GPA; Bobby Alt, University of Montana, 6-3, 240, 3.90 GPA; Dane Broadhead, Carroll College, 6-2, 215, 3.80; Casey Dennehy, Montana State University, 6-1, 280, 3.20; Charlie Dotson, UM-Western, 6-1, 210, 3.75; Nate Ray, Rocky Mountain College, 5-10, 210, 3.55 and Drew Waltee, Montana Tech, 6-2, 285, 3.85.

Football players are named to the team on the basis of his school/community leadership, football skill and academic ability.
