Sandra Jean Monteau-Murie, 64, died Sunday morning, April 22, 2012, at her home in Rocky Boy due to cancer. Her wake service began Sunday and will continue through Monday. Her funeral service will be 9 a. m. Monday, April 23, at the Murie family residence. Burial will follow at Rocky Boy Cemetery. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home.

Sandra was born April 6, 1948, in Fort Belknap, Mont., to James and Florence (Collins) Monteau. She was raised in Rocky Boy and attended school in Rocky Boy and Havre. She attended college and graduated with her degree in education. Sandra worked in education for most of her life and served as the superintendent of Rocky Boy Schools for 15 years. Sandra enjoyed traveling. She liked to attend powwows and cultural events and Native American Church Ceremonies. She enjoyed helping others and was a member of various committees and was always involved in educational programs. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Lawrence; brother, Joe Monteau; sister, Verna Kezar; and grandson, Cruz Murie.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Robert P. Murie of Rocky Boy; her two daughters, Jodi Murie and Geri Calvin, both of Rocky Boy; her sons, James (Lynn) Murie, John Murie and Jacob (Jen) Murie, all of Rocky Boy; sisters, Judy Monteau of Kalispel, Donna Devinney of Missoula, Carol (George) Henderson of Rocky Boy, Tracy Monteau of Renton, Wa., and Jill (Vincent Eagleman) Monteau of Rocky Boy; brothers, Richard (Linda) Monteau, John (Mary) Monteau and Curtis Monteau, all of Rocky Boy, and Harold (Elizabeth TopSky) Monteau of Albuquerque, N.M. ; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
