Skylights travel to Spokane for Cascade tourney

Montana State University-Northern head volleyball coach Bill Huebsch was plenty happy with how his Skylights opened the season last weekend in Great Falls.

Northern went 1-3 but faced some extremely tough competition at the Carroll/UGF Tournament, and Huebsch was pleased with his team's start.

However, things will continue to get more difficult as the Skylights play five matches over the next three days at the Cascade/Frontier Showdown in Spokane, Wash.

"I thought we played well, and it was good we were tested by some quality teams," Huebsch said of last weekend. "Because it's going to be just as tough in Spokane. We play some really good teams out there, including Eastern Oregon, who is about as good a team as we'll see this season."

The Skylights begin the tournament this afternoon with a match against Northwest University of Washington. MSU-N then faces Corban University of Oregon at 12 p.m. Friday and Northwest Christian University at 6 Friday night.

MSU-N then wraps up the busy road trip with Eastern Oregon at 10 a.m. Saturday and Evergreen State of Washington at 6 p.m. Saturday night.

The Skylights are in the middle of a three-week pre-conference schedule which will also take them to Las Vegas next weekend for five more matches against quality NAIA competition.

The Skylights begin Frontier Conference play at home against Carroll College on Sept. 8.
