With the boys basketball season getting deeper into the second half of the season, winning games is growing more and more important.

And on Tuesday, three local teams got their shot at a Hi-

Line win, while just one walked away victorious.

The Class 2B Harlem Wildcats grabbed a big, 83-64 win over the 1B Rocky Boy Stars. Rocky Boy got outscored 22-8 in the first frame and could never keep pace, as Harlem's Skyler Speaks Thunder led all scorers with 32-points and Micah Shawl added 24.

The Stars offense was led by Elijah Gopher with 16 and Desmond parker with 15. Dusty Standing Rock also added 13.

The 10C Chester/J-I Hawks also played on Tuesday, but fell to Dutton-Brady 42-24. The Hawks struggled to score, besides a 24-point fourth quarter, and were led by Lane Harmon with nine points.

Thursday brought just one local game to the Hi-Line, as the 9C Chinook Sugarbeeters battled the 9C North Star Knights in conference play. The Beeter walked away with the 56-48 win.

The Beeters got off to a hot start with 17 first quarter points, but later had to fend off a surging Knights squad that posted 17 points in the fourth quarter. But the Beeters held on for the eight point victory.

Chinook was led by Scott Schmitt with 20-points, while Grant Tilleman added 14. And North Star was led by Jordy Donoven with 24-points, while Shelby Sizemore added 12.

On Friday, boys basketball was back in full swing.

The 9C Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds steamrolled Winnet/Grass Range 63-33. The Thunderbirds got a great outing with very even scoring. Jeff Sorrell led with nine-points, while Jalen Brockie scored eight, Floyd McConnel scored eight and Colt Walker scored seven.

In more 9C action, the Big Sandy Pioneers and Box Elder Bears faced off in Box Elder. But it was the Pioneers who grabbed the dominating 79-55 conference win.

The Pioneers used an 23-point third quarter and an 18-point fourth quarter to run away from the Bears. Big Sandy was led by the efforts of Jessey Bailey and Justin Stevens with 19-points each, and Trevor Lackner with 17. Zach Leader also finished with 13.

Box Elder was led by Skylar Parisian with 14-points and Jesse Ramos with 12.

The Hawks were back in action on Friday, but managed a win this time around. The Hawks defeated the Sunburst Refiners 56-32, taking full advantage of an 18-0 first quarter run.

Chester/J-I got 14-points from Wanken and nine from Henke to lead the way.

The Wildcats grabbed another dominating win on Friday, this time downing Poplar 84-44.

It was the second big game for the Wildcats of the weekend. This time the scoring efforts were led by Bud Buck with 17-points, while Speaks Thunder added 12.

Wrapping up Friday's action, the 9C Turner Tornadoes fell to Dodson 65-46.

The Tornadoes continue to struggle this season, but turned in a solid performance. They fell behind 17-4, but battled back with a 19-point third quarter. Lucas Reed led the Tornadoes with 16, and Dylan Welsh followed with 13. Dusty Mohar also added 11-points for Turner.

The Tornadoes turned around and had a game on Saturday, but fell once again. This time it was the conference rival Knights handing the Tornadoes a 63-41 loss. Turner held a 9-6 lead after the first quarter, but North Star put the game away with 20-points in the second and 21-points in the third quarter.

Donoven led the Stars with 38-points, and was the only double digit scorer for the Knights. The Tornadoes were led by Reed with 13 and Welsh with 10.

Big Sandy also suffered a loss on Saturday, with Denton taking down the Pioneers 50-49.

The Pioneers had the early lead, but couldn't fend off Denton as they outscored Big Sandy 26-20 in the second half. It was a battle by the Pioneers that saw Lackner lead the way with 18-points. Leader followed with 13.

In more 9C play, the Beeters defeated the Bears 47-36 in Box Elder on Saturday.

The Bears actually got out to the 12-10 first quarter lead, but stumbled with just three-points in the second. Chinook kept control of the game with double digit scoring in each quarter, including 27-points in the second half. Box Elder scored 21 in the second half.

Chinook was led by Schmitt with 14-points, while Tilleman added 10. And it was Lance Young who led the Bears with 10-points, while Ramos added nine.

The Hawks finished off their weekend with a win, defeating the Simms Tigers 33-28 in a very tight game.

The Hawks led the way 12-8 at intermission, but led just 20-19 heading into the fourth quarter. C/J-I was able to put the game away with a 13-point fourth, also holding the Tigers to just nine points in the final frame.

Harmon led the Hawks with 10-points and Wanken followed with nine.

Rocky Boy also got a huge win on Saturday. It was a statement win for the Stars as they defeated Cut Bank 57-45.

The Stars trailed early, but outscored the Wolves 16-11 in the second quarter to tie the contest at 18-18 at the half. The Wolves went up by one after the third quarter, but the Stars bounced back with a 27 fourth to take the 12-point victory.

Wilbur Parisian was in the lineup for the Stars, and gave them a huge boost with his game high 18-points. Darien LaFromboise also finished with 11, while J.R. Daychild finished with 10.
