Pony golfers play in Browning

School hasn't even started yet, but the Havre High boys and girls golf teams are already getting into the meat of the 2012 season.

Today, the Blue Ponies are at the Browning Invitational, which will be played at the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course. The tournament is an 18-hole tournament for both varsity and junior varsity teams.

Havre is coming off a busy early part of the week. The Pony varsity teams played at the Great Falls Invitational Monday and Tuesday. That tournament was held at two difficult courses, the Meadowlark Country Club and the Eagle Falls Golf Course in the Electric City. The Havre junior varsity team's also got 18 holes in on Monday when the ponies traveled to Lewistown for a JV-only meet.

Today's tournament is the first of two in a row for the Ponies at East Glacier. Havre will head back to Browning next Saturday for the second Browning Invitational. In attendance today at East Glacier will be the Blue Ponies, Lewistown, Browning and possibly JV teams from Great Falls High, CMR and Whitefish.

Havre has gotten good performances in its first three tournaments of the season. Freshmen Jeff Miller and Jerod Boles led the Ponies at the two-day Great Falls Invite, while Ramsey Drew was outstanding in the season-opening Blue Pony Tournament at Prairie Farms Golf Course. On the girls side, Boston Swensen has been really steady for the Ponies, as has freshman Peyton Howard.

The Ponies tee off in the Browning Invitational this morning. Havre will be back at home to host the Havre Invitational on Sept. 8 at Beaver Creek Golf Course.
