Memorial Day ceremonies planned

Many of Havre's civic organizations are preparing to join together Monday to honor America and the Hi-Line's fallen soldiers for Memorial Day.

Starting at 11 a. m. Monday, members of groups including the American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will gather outside the Hill County Courthouse with the National Guard Color Guard to remember those who have given their lives in America's wars.

Jed Damson, local commander of the American Legion, said they will begin by reading the names of deceased Hi-Line soldiers.

Following the ceremony, the gathering will move to the Elks Lodge for a freewill donation chili feed.

At the Elks, speakers will share their thoughts, from local Pastor John Chapman to Havre resident and Mrs. Montana Kristi Parrotte.

Damson said that weather might interfere with the initial activities outside the courthouse, in which case the ceremony would just go straight to the Elks Lodge.
