Another new year brings another tax season, but filing taxes can be less painful with a little planning and help, which Opportunity Link Inc. is providing across the Hi-Line.
Opportunity Link announced this week that they are helping connect local taxpayers with "trained, IRS-certified volunteers" who "can help prepare and e-file your basic income tax returns. "
"Anyone with a household income of less than $50,000 is eligible for this free service, " the press release says. "This year, you can also opt to prepare your own taxes at Free Assisted Self- Preparation Tax (FAST) sites using the i-CAN! e-file program. Certified preparers will be at FAST sites to answer your questions and guide you through the tax preparation and filing process. This is an opportunity for individuals to learn how to prepare their own taxes while gaining a better understanding of their specific tax situations. "
Sit-down, appointment-based tax preparation and FAST sites have been set up in Havre, with hours at Opportunity Link and Havre-Hill County Library; Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation at the Chippewa Cree Tribe Family Resource Center; Fort Belknap Indian Reservation at the Aaniiih Nakoda College, formerly Fort Belknap College, in Nakoda Hall; and Cut Bank, in the Glacier County Annex.
These sites also provide information about how to file online, with any of the sites listed on www.MontanaFreeFile.org.
