North Stars stay on the road
The Havre North Stars American Legion baseball club got the bats rolling last Sunday in Great Falls.
Now they'll look to do it again against a more formidable foe.
Havre catcher Thurman Holdsclaw looks at a pitch during the North Star's season-opener two weeks ago against Lewistown. The North Stars battle the Redbirds again Sunday in Lewistown.
g the Great Falls Stallions in a Northern District doubleheader last Sunday in Great Falls, the North Stars will travel to Lewistown on Sunday for a non-league double-dip with the Redbirds.
Havre faced the Redbirds in one nine-inning game two weeks ago in Havre, and the Redbirds exploded for 18 runs. But at the time, Havre had just three practices under its belt, and this time around, the North Stars have three games.
Against the Stallions, Havre got superb pitching from veterans Brandon Smith and Justin Jensen, and the North Star bats were solid throughout the two games.
However, the Redbirds are more experienced, with the bulk of their lineup being made up of third and fourth-year players. Lewistown has state tournament experience, solid pitching and a good defense. So the two games on Sunday will be a good test of where the North Stars are at this early season.
Sunday's games in Lewistown will end a quick four-game road trip for the North Stars. Havre is set to play at home again on May 9 against the Stallions. The North Stars are also at home May 20 and May 30.
Sunday's games in Lewistown are set to start at 1 p.m.
