Renae LaShaye Longknife Durham

Renae LaShaye Longknife Durham, of Beaver Creek and California, 18, a student, died Saturday, June 23, at her home from an accidental gun shot.

Wake services started at her family's ranch on Beaver Creek Road, at 7 p. m. Tuesday, June 26. They will continue at 7 p. m. Wednesday, at the Chief Nosey Center in Lodge Pole. Funeral services will be 11 a. m. Thursday, June 28, at the Chief Nosey Center. Burial will be next to her beloved grandfather, Leroy Longknife, on the family ranch at Beaver Creek.

A memorial service will be held in Fresno, Calif., on Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 10 a. m., at the Milburn Overlook on the San Joaquin River, followed by a gathering at the Durham residence. All are welcome to attend.

Renae LaShaye Longknife Durham was born on Feb. 12, 1994, in Havre, the daughter of Leanna Longknife and Jeremy Durham. She was adopted by her grandparents at 7 months and was raised on the ranch at Beaver Creek. She went with her grandmother when she was teaching pre-school and kindergarten where she learned to enjoy reading and learning. Renae enjoyed many long walks with her grandmother learning about nature and different flowers and roots and how they can help a person. She attended the Lodge Pole School until after third grade.

Renae moved to Fresno at the age of 8 and attended schools in both the Fresno Unified and Central Unified school districts. She thoroughly enjoyed the arts and wildlife. She participated in soccer, volleyball, cheer and ballet dance. She loved attending River Camp. Some of her favorite activities included drawing, hiking, camping, traveling to the ocean with her grandparents and whale watching. She recently graduated from high school and moved from Fresno to Montana, where she was to start college this fall. She will be remembered for her creative spirit and love of nature.

Renae is survived by her parents, Jeremy and Gail Durham of Fresno; and Leanna Longknife Perry of Salt Lake City; her siblings, Alexandra and Matthew Durham of Fresno, Scott "Nieko" Longknife Perry of Beaver Creek and Brady Harms of Virginia; her grandparents, Ruth Longknife of Beaver Creek, Mary Durham of Montana, Micheal Durham of Fresno, Steve and Judy Holtkamp of Fresno and Tom and Carolyn Balmanno of Fresno; as well as a large extended family across the western United States.
