Preservation commission celebrates centennial with next ornament

The Havre/Hill County Historic Preservation Commission is celebrating Hill County's 100th birthday with its next fundraising limited-edition ornament, which will replicate the seat of county governmnent.

Candi Zion, president of the commission, said the board approved selecting the historic Hill County Courthouse as the next ornament, and the commission plans to have them here for sale by Festival Days.

"We decided, as a commission, to recognize the 100th birthday of the county by recognizing the courthouse in an ornament, " Zion said.

The money raised from the sale of the ornaments will be used in historic preservation efforts the commission undertakes.

The commission's first commemorative ornament, limited edition Christmas decorations crafted from pewter, sold out in a flash last season. The commission ordered a second edition, also limited in number but not each individually numbered, to help fill the demand.

"It was so successful, we plan to do it every year, honoring a different structure, " Zion said, adding, "We were extremely grateful to the public for supporting funding historic preservation activities in Havre and Hill County. "
