Breaking Sports: Skylights shock nationally-ranked LC State

If anyone had the potential to end the MSU-Northern volleyball team's home-court winning streak, it would be the nationally-ranked and defending Frontier Conference champion Lewis-Clark State Warriors. But Northern had other ideas. On Friday night at the Armory Gymnasium, the Skylights beat the Warriors for the first time in the Bill Huebsch era, and perhaps for the first time in much longer than that, as Northern won in a five-set thriller. The Skylights dropped the opening set 19-25, but rallied to take as 2-1 lead by scores of 25-23 and 25-20. LC State stormed back to take the fourth set 25-14, but Northern responded with a dramatic 15-13 victory in the decisive fifth game.

The win pushed the Skylights to 6-1 in the Frontier and into a first-place tie with the Warriors, who lost for the first time this season in conference play. MSU-N also improved to 12-9 overall and the Skylights are a perfect 5-0 on their home floor this season.

Northern returns to the road to face UGF Thursday night and then travels to Lewiston, Idaho for a rematch with the Warriors next Saturday.
