Breaking sports: Lights defeat Bears 42-19

Last weekend the Montana State University-Northern football team delivered a big time win to the home fans. In a repeat performance, the Lights delivered another win to fans at the Blue Pony stadium in Havre, defeating Rocky Mountain 42-19.

MSU-N got off to a great start, and only got better as time elapsed. The Lights cruised to a 14-3 lead after the first quarter was in the books, and managed to a get into the end zone two more times for a 28-19 lead at the half.

The Northern defense was lights out in the second half, allowing no Rocky scores, as well as came up with three turnovers on the afternoon.

And while the Lights scored two more touchdowns in the second half, and quarterback Derek Lear finished the day with four touchdown passes, running back Stephen Silva stole the show with his legs. Silva ran all over the Rocky defense and finished with two TD jaunts.

Silva scored on a 47-yarder in the second quarter, but topped that with a 91-yard rushing TD in the third quarter. With the win, the Lights improved to 2-3 in the conference and 2-3 overall, while the Bears dropped to 2-3 in the conference and 3-3 overall.
