Havre thinclads strong at the A.R.M.

Heading into Whitefish, the Havre High boys and girls track and field teams knew the competition was going to be as tough as it has been all season long.

The Central A Blue Ponies competed in the annual A.R.M. Invite on Saturday in Whitefish, and faced a true test against a tough field. The Pony girls finished an impressive fourth place with 56 points, while the HHS boys grabbed 32 points for an eighth place finish.

HHS had to perform well to grab the points they did, facing tough teams like Kalispell Glacier, whitefish, Polson Cut Bank, Kalispell Flathead, Bigfork, Plains, Columbia Falls, Libby, Eureka, Thompson Falls, Troy and Shelby. And as the season winds down, the weekends results should give a lot of the Ponies' top athletes a better idea of where they all sit compared to the rest of the Class A field.

"I really thought our kids were competing confidently," Havre High head coach Trevor VanCampen said. "They looked strong, and I was able to see some really competitive fire from both the boys and girls teams. The past couple of years I have seen some timidness at the Whitefish meet, but this year it looked like were poised and competing with confidence. We have been pushing hard and training hard for divisionals, so we were kind of worried about being tired or over worked, but we came out and put up some good times and good marks."

Sammy Evans continued her stellar senior season, coming up the No. 2 athlete in three events. She cleared 5-1 in the high jump, leaped 16-7 in the long jump and jumped over 33-11 in the triple jump. Evans finished behind Glacier's Lexy Boschee in the high jump and long jump, and finished behind Glacier's Leah Cook in the triple jump. Both Boschee and Cook combined for three meet records in the three jumping events to edge Evans.

Peyton Filius followed closely behind Evans with two top six finishes, as did Lacey Waid with the HHS girls only No. 1 finish of the meet. Filius finished fourth in the 800 (2:36.44) and fifth in the 1600 (5:42.54), and Waid cleared 8-6 for the top spot in the pole vault.

Van Voast also finished fifth in the 800 (2:38.54), while Haley Ohm was sixth in the 3200 (15:16.24), Skylar Vukasin was fifth in the high jump (4-7) and Jennifer Nordgulen was fifth in the triple jump (31-6). The 400-meter relay team also placed fourth with a time of 53.84 and the 1600-meter relay team placed third with a time of 4:26.34.

And for the boys team, Mason Case continued to outrun the competition.

Case took the No. 1 spot in the 100 and 200-meter races on Saturday, running the 100 in a time of 11.54 seconds, and the 200 in a time of 23.84 seconds.

But Garrett Aguillard and Marc Klimas also grabbed points for the Ponies. Aguillard placed third in the 1600 (4:48.94) and fourth in the 3200 (10:28.94. Klimas was fifth in the 3200, finishing just behind Aguillard with a time of 10:34.14.

"All of the kids really came out and competed," VanCampen said. "We didn't bring many kids down, about 21 total, but we still put up some points and competed as a small team."

Next in line for the Ponies is the Top 10 meet in Glasgow on Tuesday, followed by a triangular with Lewistown and Malta at the Havre middle school track on Saturday.
