Blue Pony golf teams head back to East Glacier Saturday

The Havre High boys and girls golf teams are getting into the heart of the 2012 season. And this weekend's Browning Invitational should be a good one for the Blue Ponies, because they should know the course they are playing on well.

Saturday's Browning Invite will be played at

Havre High's Katie Beck takes a swing during the Blue Pony Invitational earlier this month at Prairie Farms Golf Course. The Ponies are in East Glacier Saturday for the Browning Invitational.

the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course, and the Ponies were just there last Friday. So Havre should be well-equipped to do well on Saturday, especially after posting solid scores at East Glacier last weekend. The Pony girls took first place at the even, and four HHS girls finished in the Top 10. The Havre boys took second, and three Ponies finished inside the Top 10 individually.

In Saturday's tournament at Browning, HHS will be up against some familiar competition in Lewistown and Browning, but the Ponies will also see teams from Whitefish and Columbia Falls, also possibly Ronan. So there will be even more good golfers to measure up against this weekend.

And playing against good competition is what the Ponies need as they close in on the final month of their season. Next week, Havre travels to the Lewistown Invitational, then plays host to the Havre Invitational at beaver Creek Golf Course on Sept. 8. After that, a trip to the Billings area is all that stands between the Ponies and postseason. So the time to start lowering scores and sharpen games is now for the Havre High golf teams.

Saturday's 18-hole Browning Invitational will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. at the East Glacier Lodge Golf Course.
