2013 Havre Daily All Hi-Line Girls Team

When it came to girls high school basketball on the Hi-Line, the last three months was certainly exciting. And due to so many great individual players from Havre to Chester, to Harlem to Big Sandy and many points in between, area girls basketball thrived in 2012-13.

Havre's Peyton Filius

And just like great teams like Havre High, Rocky Boy, Chinook, Chester/J-I, North Star and many others performed well all season long, so too did many players from around our coverage area.

The 2013 Havre Daily News All Hi-Line Girls Team is composed of 12 of the area's top performers from this past season. The list includes seven seniors, four juniors and just one underclassmen. The list is also made up of three players from Central A champion Havre High, just one Class B and the rest Class C stalwarts. There are a pair of three-time All-Hi-Line standouts and four two-time performers.

Peyton Filius, Havre

Though injured during a portion of the 2012-13 season, Filius performed at a high level for the Blue Ponies, especially down the stretch of the season and through the Class A state tournament. Filius, who led HHS in scoring at just over 13 points per game, is making her third straight appearance on the All Hi-Line Team, and is one of three Blue Ponies to make the list.

This past season, Filius earned Central A honors for the third straight season, as well as Class A All-State honors in helping the Blue Ponies to their second straight Class A state tourney and a repeat Central A championship. And With a year to go, Filius will certainly be a prized collegiate recruit come next winter.

Makhayla Farmer, Chinook

Chinook's Makhayla Farmer

Also just a junior, Farmer is the second three-time All Hi-Line performer this year. She helped guide Chinook to the District 9C championship and a third straight trip to the Northern C tournament. She did it by leading the Sugarbeeter with 15 points and 11 rebounds per game, while she also led the 9C in blocked shots. Farmer is already a three-time Class C All-State selection and has already committed to play for the Montana State University-Northern Skylights following her senior year for the Beeters.

Brandy Lambourne, Havre

Lambourne is one six total players to make the All Hi-Line team for at least a second straight year. While she was a standout point guard for the Ponies as a sophomore, she picked up her scoring and shooting this season. Lambourne became a dynamic threat this winter by averaging 10 points per game, developing a deadly 3-point shot, while also leading the Ponies in assists. She was among the Central A leaders in both steals and assists, she was a lockdown defender and for her efforts, she earned First-Team Central A honors. And with her senior year still ahead of her, Lambourne, another college prospect, will be part of an outstanding senior class on the Hi-Line next season.

Havre's Brandy Lambourne

Shakayla Whitecow, HLP

Nobody in the District 9C scored more points this season then Hays-Lodge Pole senior Shakayla Whitecow. The 5-10 guard/forward averaged 19 points per game and shot better than 50 percent from the field for the Thunderbirds. She was named 9C All-Conference for the third straight season, and was among the leading scorers in all of the Northern C for the second year in a row.

HLP's Shakayla Whitecow

Mateila Cline, Big Sandy

Cline is yet another repeat All Hi-Line performer. She followed up a phenomenal junior year at Big Sandy by averaging 16 points and shooting better than 40 percent from the 3-point-line in her senior season. She helped a resurgent Pioneer squad finish third at the District 9C tourney last month in Havre, and over the last two years, few players in the area have been as dangerous on offense as Cline has been.

Big Sandy's Mateila Cline

Lisa Carlon, North Star

Lisa Carlon makes her second straight appearance on the All Hi-Line Team after a strong senior season for the North Star Knights. Carlon led a balanced North Star squad by scoring nearly 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds per game. Also a tenacious defender and a team leader, Carlon not only helped the Knights to a remarkable run at the Northern C Divisional last month in Great Falls, she was also named Class C All-State for her performance.

North Star's Lisa Carlon

Brandi Buffalo, Rocky Boy

Buffalo, a standout post player transferred up to Rocky Boy this season, but playing in the difficult District 1B didn't slow her down a bit. Not only did Buffalo help the Morning Stars to their best regular season finish in the 1B since moving up from Class C, but she was rewarded by being named District 1B All-Conference after averaging 14 points and eight rebounds per game. For her efforts, Buffalo makes her second straight All Hi-Line Team.

Rocky Boy's Brandi Buffalo

Kate Graff, C/J-I

With all the success the Chester/J-I Hawks have had in recent years, there's always been at least one C/J-I player make the All Hi-Line Team. This year, it's senior Kate Graff. She helped the Hawks to an unbeaten regular season and postseason in the 10C, then pushed C/J-I to within one win of reaching the Class C state tourney. Graff averaged 10 points and five rebounds for the Hawks on her way to Class C All-State honors.

Chester/J-I's Kate Graff

Molly Herron, Big Sandy

Herron is another of a star-studded junior class on the Hi-Line. She's making her second straight All Hi-Line Team after earning all 9C honors for the third straight year. Big Sandy was loaded with offensive talent and much more balanced this season, so Herron didn't quite put up the big numbers she did a year ago, but her size, speed and versatility made her one of the most difficult players to guard in the league, as well as an outstanding rebounder and defender.

Rebecca Rosette, Box Elder

Big Sandy's Molly Herron

After two years of absolute dominance, the Box Elder Bears were young this season, and who knows where they would have ended up without the guidance of senior Rebecca Rosette. After moving away from Montana for her junior season, Rosette returned to Box Elder to average 15 points per game this season. She helped the young Bears emerge as a late-season threat and she was named 9C All-Conference for the second time in her career.

Morgan Mazurkiewicz, Havre

The third of the Blue Ponies to make the All Hi-Line team, sophomore Morgan Mazurkiewicz was a key component of HHS's success in 2012-13. She did a little bit of everything for head coach Dustin Kraske's squad this season, including timely shooting, tough rebounding, and hard-nosed defense. She earned Central A All-Conference honors, and will be one of the top juniors in Class A next season.

Box Elder's Rebecca Rosette

Emily Dennis, Chinook

Dennis was part of a quite, but deadly Chinook offense in her senior year. She was the only other Beeter to average double figures, and her senior leadership and passing skills certainly gave the Beeters a strong guard presence to go with all their outstanding interior talent this year. Dennis was named All 9C this season as well.
