Havre High track teams score big at Malta Invitational

Tuesday brought another opportunity to compete to the Havre High track and field program.

And the Central A Ponies have shown consistent growth and improvement all season long. And after another solid outing at the Malta Athletic Club Invitational in Malta, the trend looks to have continued.

In the boys field, the Ponies took third place with 67 points. HHS finished behind No. 1 Malta with 112 and No. 2 Chinook with 76. And in girls action, the Ponies finished in fourth place, scoring 79 team points. Havre finished behind No. 1 Malta with 99, No. 2 Chinook with 90, and No. 3 Plentywood with 88 points.

The rest of the boys teams included Scobey with 44, Plentywood with 43, North Star with 42, Rocky Boy with 34, Box Elder with 28, Big Sandy with 17, Nashua with 16, Dodson with 9, Frazer with nine, Poplar with nine, Winnett-Grass Range with seven, Hinsdale with four, Whitewater with three, Saco with two, Hays-Lodge Pole with two and Turner with two. And the rest of the girls field included North Star with 54, Wolf Point with 38, Winnett-Grass Range with 35, Scobey with 34, Hinsdale with 31, Denton with 28, Big Sandy with 17, Whitewater with 17, Turner with eight, Dodson with five, Hays-Lodge Pole with three, Poplar with three, Nashua with three and Harlem with two points.

Nate Rismon continues to grow for the Ponies, and helped lead the pack with two top finishes.

Rismon took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.85, as well as sixth place in the triple jump with a distance of 36-02. But Zach Plum, John Faber, and Thurman Holdscalw also placed in two events each. Plum finished the pole vault in fourth place, clearing 11-0, as well as finished the long jump in second place with a jump of 19-00. Faber was sixth in the 200 with a time of 24.56, as well as sixth in the high jump, clearing 5-04. Holdsclaw won yet another pole vault title by clearing 13-00, but also finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 36-03.

Marc Klimas also took third in the 1,600 with a time of 5:07.00, while Charlie Christianson took fourth in the high jump with a cleared height of 5-06. Thomas Gruber finished second in the pole vault with a height of 12-06, and Ryne Antley finished sixth in the javelin with a toss of 133-05.

Both relay teams also had a decent showing. The short relay team finished third with a time of 48.36, while the long relay team finished in second place with a time of 4:06.82.

The HHS girls also had a decent afternoon, as they continue to earn points from several athletes across the board.

Lexie Olson scored points in three events, while Katie Christianson wasn't far behind, placing in two events. Olson placed fourth in the 100 with a time of 14.35, fifth in the pole vault with a height of 7-0, and fourth in the high jump with a jump of 4-06. Christianson was first in the 3,200 with a time of 12:42.25, as well as second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:51.00.

Other top finishers included Skylar Vukasin, fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:10.00, Megan Erickson, sixth in the 400 with a time of 1:11.40, Larissa Price, fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 6:11.00, Martha Stocker, fifth in the shot put (31-09), and Peyton Filius who was second in the 800 with a time of 2:36.40. The short relay team also finished fourth (56.90), while the long relay team finished second (4:44.78).

Lacey Waid also grabbed another first-place finish in the pole vault on Tuesday.

Waid claimed the No. 1 spot in record setting fashion, clearing 9-09 to earn a new Blue Pony record. Waid was formally tied for the school record after clearing 9-06 on several different occasions last season and this season.

HHS will travel to Whitefish on Saturday.
